The 3rd annual Winter Winds tournament was a great success, with a record 54 players participating.  The doubles record from the Autumn Winds (16 under par) wasn't broken, but given the blustery winds all day the scores were quite respectable.  The team of Leo Lacwasan and Simon McAlister trounced Titan Bariloni and Derek Brazauskas, who won the Advanced Open division in the previous doubles tourney.  But even so, they were six shots off of that record.  In the Novice division, newcomers Jesse Alling and Daniel Shwarz finished at 38 over par -- not bad for never having played the game before!

The pros tee off.

The Pro Open division (with Tim Jiardini, Jeff Wiechowski, Brent Sanderson and Bill MacWilliams) started off the tournament on the first tee.

Elizabeth Hudson

The sister team of Rachael and Elizabeth Hudson played in the Pro Women's division.  Elizabeth fires off her drive here as Jeff Wiechowski looks on.

Putting on nine

In stark contrast to the previous winter's tourney, the ground had almost no snow cover.

Feeling blue

Even without snow the course still presented tough footing, like this tough position on eighteen.

Uphill putt on eight

The teams had their work cut out for them, like this tricky uphill putt on hole eight.

The new ninth tee

The tee for hole 9 was given a new position, providing better footing and adding about 20 feet to its length.

The Kielbs on fifteen

Brothers Michael and John Kielb try for a long putt on hole fifteen.

Patrick Harris and John Hoffman

This was the first time in an HCC tourney for the team of Patrick Harris and John Hoffman, seen here on the fairway of thirteen.

Fournier at eleven

Travis Brougham and Ian Fournier, two area supporters of Deaf Disc Golf tourneys, put in a strong showing.

Starting the back nine

There may not have been typical New England wintery conditions, but the back nine presented its usual tangle of challenges.

The Closest-to-the-Pin competition

No one sunk an ace, so as the sun set the competitors lined up for the CTP throw-off.  Here, Titan Bariloni gives it a shot.

The Westfield State contingent

In a surprising achievement, the contingent from Westfield State College (some of whom had never before played competitive disc golf) all took home medals from their various divisions.  But even those who didn't win left with smiles on their faces.
